So, we just kind of hung out today....getting over our jet lag and waiting for Geoff and Renee to get here. We uploaded pictures, updated blogs, and whatever else we chose to do. More family came over and visited and then we ate dinner and did more visiting. The family finished up the planning for the service to bury the remains of my mother and father in law as that is the main reason we are here. All throughout the night, we kept logging onto the British Airways website to check on the status of Geoff's flight. It was on time for a bit and we started joking about what we affectionately call the "Gaeraths Curse" when we noticed the time for landing kept creeping later and later. Each time Marsha checked the arrival time, the phone rang and it was Christian letting us know what we had already found out online. Later on, we get another call stating that the car rental desk was not open past 11am and their plane was scheduled to land at 11:12 or so with a good hour to get through customs and to get luggage. To top it off, the car that Carrie and Christian drove to meet them and have them follow home in was not big enough for 4 people and luggage for two. This is when the hilarity ensued.
Andy is yelling in Dutch about how this trip has been nothing but bad luck so far and now he has to drive to the airport at 11pm in the snow in another country....yadda yadda yadda. We were all laughing at this point. The final decision was to get a start on the road to the airport and then if they called and could fit the luggage, they would call back and let us know. So, we wait and the guys leave. A little later, Teresa gets a call and they fit the luggage in the car, so she then calls the guys and they turn around. They threaten to keep going and go to Amsterdam and she said, "Your pajamas will be hanging outside if you do that!"
All in all, it was a slow day until the very end and then it was just funny. Obviously, this didn't directly affect me, so I wasn't as irritated as Andy was. You can't make this stuff up that is happening to the family and it seems to be centered around Andy's immediate family. Luckily, we have managed to escape unscathed. I probably should't say that...I may have just jinxed Ed and I.
Tomorrow....who knows what tomorrow holds?
